Welcome from the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Graduate Research)

Professor Dick Strugnell

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Graduate Research)

Research training is a core activity of the University of Melbourne. Our graduate research candidates are crucial to the research profile of the University, with their research activity contributing significantly to the University's research output, national and international profile. The Melbourne School of Graduate Research has an important role within the University's research environment, supporting the highest standards of graduate research administration and offering a range of academic activities that contribute to the success of the University's graduate research programs.

Administrative responsibility for active candidature management, including progress reporting, lies with Faculties and Graduate Schools. MSGR has final responsibility for admissions, conversions and confirmation outside of the normal timelines for probationary candidature, manages all thesis examinations and continues to provide central academic enrichment programs for graduate research students. MSGR also plays an enhanced chancellery role in terms of strategic leadership, policy development and quality assurance for research training. MSGR has long been a leader in graduate education and acknowledged for the high quality and diversity of its research training and professional development programs for graduate research candidates.

If you're a new graduate researcher, I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Melbourne School of Graduate Research and wish you all the best with your study. For those of you further into their research journey, welcome back to another busy year!
