Engagement Seminar 5: Becoming Engaged Through Social Media

G01, Elisabeth Murdoch Building

  • For all graduate researchers and staff

The public conversation will take place whether you like it or not. But you can choose whether or not to take part. If you choose not to, you create a vacuum and we all know what nature thinks of a vacuum. The vacuum will be filled by people who don’t necessarily know what they are talking about or even have the world’s best interests at heart. Or you can choose to speak up and be heard. As the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science said recently: “With public health, the planet and the future of humanity on the line, it's more important than ever that the knowledge science creates be as widely shared as possible.” Peter Doherty has risen to this challenge and is one of the most prolific and effective users of social media in his field.

Guest speaker: Professor Peter Doherty, Nobel Prize-winning medical researcher and prolific tweeter.
